Is ketamine treatment covered by insurance?
Apart from intranasal esketamine (Spravato®), which is covered by insurance, neither ketamine infusions nor ketamine intramuscular sessions are covered by insurance at this time. This is largely a result of ketamine not being FDA approved for treatment of mental health conditions. As such, its use for mental health conditions is considered “off label.”
Interventional psychiatry consultation and ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) sessions are covered services for patients with UHC, Cigna, and Oscar. Ketamine infusions are typically not covered by most insurance plans and not eligible for out of network reimbursement when performed by an in network provider.
If you have out-of-network benefits, we recommend you check with your insurance provider to determine if you are able to be reimbursed for your initial interventional psychiatry consultation, as well as your KAP sessions.
